The January Mini Assembly for Area 66 is scheduled on either the third or fourth weekend of January each year. During even-numbered years, the assembly includes orientation sessions for newly elected General Service Representatives (GSRs) and District Committee Members (DCMs). Additionally, the Area guidelines are reviewed, and nominations for Committee Chairs are made by the Area Chair. In odd-numbered years, the assembly focuses on hearing reports from officers and Committee Chairs and on conducting any unresolved old or new business. Please note that the January assembly is a one-day event.
The Pre-Conference Assembly is held annually on the third weekend in March. In addition to regular Area business, this assembly provides the Area Delegate with an opportunity to gather input from members regarding issues that will be addressed at the upcoming General Service Conference. This ensures that the Delegate accurately represents the Area's collective viewpoint.
The July Assembly typically takes place on the first weekend in July. At this gathering, the Delegate delivers a report on the outcomes of the General Service Conference. The assembly also serves as a forum for handling regular Area business.
The Fall Assembly is usually convened on the first weekend in November. In odd-numbered years, this is the designated election assembly where Area Delegates and Area Officers are elected to serve the next two-year term. It also marks the final assembly for the current rotation..
On the Saturday evening of each assembly weekend, a speaker meeting is typically held either at the assembly venue or at a local Alcoholics Anonymous group.
For further details regarding Area 66 Assemblies, members are encouraged to contact their General Service Representative (GSR) or District Officer.
Any meeting of area G.S.R.s and the area committee (Chapter Five, A.A. Service Manual) is an assembly. The area assembly is the mainspring of the Conference structure — the democratic voice of the movement expressing itself. Assemblies are the responsibility of the area committee, and are conducted by its chairperson.
In the beginning, general service assemblies were held only to elect committee officers and the delegate to the Conference meeting, and without such meetings, there might be no area service structure today. Now, assembly meetings consider a variety of issues, from General Service Conference business to area problems and solutions and financial affairs, while sharing sessions, public information programs, workshops, and video programs keep A.A. strong and participation in service growing.
An election assembly is held at least once every two years to choose a delegate and committee officers. It is usually scheduled in the fall of the year, Area 66 meets the first weekend of November. (Generally, the newly elected delegate and officers take office as of January the following year)
Nonelection assemblies or meetings may be held at any interval the area wishes. In some areas they may be called “workshops” or “general sharing sessions.” However, most areas call them assemblies and include workshops and other activities; and the election meeting is always called an “assembly.”
